Lee Trevino one of the best ball strikers of all time has this to say… 

            “Where is the ball position?  If it is too far forward then the arms cannot reach it since the golfer’s body doesn’t move.  Think of it like this, The Body is a tree trunk and the arms are the branches. They must remain connected at all times.  When the limbs come up before contact, the result is a strike on the lower part of the clubface of the golf club. You also tend to hit it left.” 

          Trevino explained that contact impacts the flight and the direction of the  

golf ball tremendously. He added that a good solid hit with strong contact will make the ball go where golfers want it to generally, while the opposite leaves them struggling. 

Lee Trevino recommended getting closer to the ball and remembering that you can't extend too far or you won't hit the ball properly and you'll never get better at this part of the sport.
